3 Sister Acorn Squash and Waltham Broccoli harvested

Acorn squash were planted as part of our 3 sisters experiment.  They produced average sized squash.  They will be used with Casava to make a yellow curry. Waltham Broccoli was planted in late June and there were no activities until the nights started getting colder. We are getting some beautiful Broccoli.  We continue to harvest as they keep on producing new shoots.

We planted these with our Three Sisters Corn and Peas in first week of June. We were experimenting with the Three Sisters so they didn’t get any water or compost.  We still got pretty good count but next year we will definitely increase the compost and watering to get Market quality squash. And we will use the Three sister model as well.

These acorn squash was planted with the corn, peas and beans on first week of June. We have only watered them twice at the start and the consistent rain has been taking care of them since. These squash will be turned into sweet curries to accompany the spicy curries to eat with rice. They are also used in a popular Tamil mix vegetable stew called “Sambar” instead of pumpkins.
