Start of cold crops inside the sustainable hoophouse

Our September 25 planted cold crops are doing great inside the green house. There is a huge demand for spinach and lettuce  from the market gardeners and farmers from our community farm.  Our community plot farmers have been buying most of the produce. We will be planting again tomorrow on the beds where we had the warm lovers this summer.

We bought the seed potatoes from a Seedy Saturday event.   We kept them in the basement and sprayed water and encouraged shoot growth. We then planted the shoots in Napanee Macro Managed Plot in end of April. We didn’t water or do any maintenance.  This is a permaculture experiment and it is a success. Interplanted King of the North Peppers in the Green House

We inter cropped the tomatoes and egg plant beds with extra pepper plants. We initially thought they died off under the pressure but was surprised to find them alive with the best quality peppers. They were also safe from slug and pest attacks. It also help us maximize the valuable green house space.
